This year the National Volunteering Week, arrived at its 19’th edition, took place between Sptember 7-10 under te coordination of the Masterpeace Ro NGO and it had participants (volunteers, students and teachers) from several school institutions from Prahova county, among them being the “1 Mai” Vocational High school. They had the chance to watch short films aimed at raising awareness about some of the problems that modern cities face, such as pollution and waste management. The participants had the opportunity to find out the views of young people on these issues, as well as the solutions that they had come up with, solutions that are at hand for anyone (cleaning their school’s yard or their apartment building’s green spaces, using
non-polluting vehicles as often as possible etc). Furthermore, they were able to engage in debates about these problems with the teachers and adults that participated at the event.
In our high school this event took place in an rather unusual location, in the school’s yard, among the participants being our vice-principal, Mrs. Vicol Vica, the school’s projects and programmes’ coordinator, Mrs. VasilescuSimionEmilia and Mr. Dumitru Marius, one of our Romanian language teacher. The participants showed real interest towards the issues in discussion, acknowledging the impact that they have on the city and the environment.
